讲座介绍:
In a dialogue between Professor Baoquan Chen and Turing Award recipient John Hopcroft, the two computer scientists delve into the transformative impact of AI on education. The central questions are how the ever-advancing future computer intelligence will affect the content of learning and ways to learn. They highlight the practical applications of AI-driven tools—such as personalized learning systems, virtual teaching assistants, and educational quality assessment—in overcoming the limitations of traditional pedagogy, particularly in enhancing the synergy between scale and precision in Chinese education. A more fundamental question they ask is how the future curriculum should be developed in the new AI era. They emphasize preventing technology from widening educational disparities, and fostering a new educational ecosystem through the integration of technological innovation and humanistic values, prioritizing inclusivity, critical thinking, and creativity.
主讲人介绍:
Baoquan Chen is a Professor of Peking University, where he is the Associate Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence. His research interests generally lie in computer graphics, 3D vision, and embodied AI. Chen has served as conference chair of major international conferences such as SIGGRAPH Asia 2014, Int’l Conference on 3D Vision, and IEEE Visualization 2005. He is the recipient of 2003 NSF CAREER award and 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award of Chinagraph. He was inducted to IEEE Visualization Academy in 2021 and ACM SIGGRAPH Academy in 2024, respectively. He is an IEEE Fellow, also a Fellow of China Computer Federation (CCF) and China Society of Image and Graphics (CSIG).
John E. Hopcroft is Professor Emeritus at Cornell University and Visiting Chair Professor, Director of CFCS, Turing Advisor at Peking University. His research centers on theoretical aspects of computing, especially analysis of algorithms, automata theory, and graph algorithms. He was honored with the A. M. Turing Award in 1986 “for fundamental achievements in the design and analysis of algorithms and data structures”. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). In 2016, he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award, the highest honor awarded by the Chinese government to foreign experts. In 2023, he won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China.
